Higher Ground

Our band’s name is “Higher Ground”, the title of a song by Stevie Wonder that we like to play Red Hot Chili Peppers style. We chose this name as we all love this song (which became one of our strong ones) and because still reminds us where we come from giving a sense of “verticality”! The band was started in early 2014 by a few colleagues discovering that they shared a love of music. The band continues to morph as we find joy in experimenting with songs that have resonated with the very unique members of the band from 70's to pop and Contemporary - we rock them all.

Jose Luis Pedraza de Vega

Jose Luis started with the Classic guitar at the age of 15 back in Madrid. He also explored rumba and Flamenco playing with his band at parties. He then moved into the blues and rock ‘n' roll and since then the electric guitar has been his partner. With his band 'Los Sotanash' he played in many of the Madrid Night live music clubs until he moved to Australia 5 years ago and started a new adventure. And this is only the beginning...

Suresh has an amazing taste for Rock and Heavy Metal music, but his great skills on guitar and bass guitar make hime a complete and versatile musician. He often says that it takes a Gibson "Solid Guitar" to play solid rock but his "Little Devil" is docile as a kitty in his hands, he knows how to tame it! For the first time on the stage of Construction Rocks he is ready to release the beast!

uma pillai

Uma started singing with Sydney Children's Choir from a young age performing with the likes of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Barbara Streisand and Tina Arena at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Music has been a big part of her life ever since, picking up the clarinet and percussion along the way and performing in various musicals. Perfectly at ease both in concert halls and in the rock arenas, she is willing to bring Higher Ground to the next level!

Tullio Cosentino

Tullio started playing in a garage at the age of 15, with several bands and different genres from Hard Rock to Hip-Hop & Ragamuffin. He toured Italy in 1994 with the band ‘Bisca’, contributed to the recording of the first album of the band “O.R.O”, finally finding his natural dimension with the Blues Band ‘Servosterzo’ performing in Rome’s night clubs until he moved to Australia 8 years ago, and he still rocks!

David Hubbard

Bass Guitar

David is an eclectic musician who developed his musical skills playing in a Big Band for Baptist Church. He started as a drummer moving to bass guitar and eventually enjoying lead and rhythmic guitar roles. He also gives his support in arranging and sound-engineering. Maybe next year he will play the piano. But for Construction Rocks 2017 he will be the solid bass sound of Higher Ground.
