The Construction Rocks Melbourne team is ecstatic to announce ‘Jacqui and the Strutts’ as the first of 4 bands who are ready to compete in Construction Rocks Melbourne 2019 on the 24th Oct 2019 at the Prince Bandroom!
A newly formed band of musical wizards from consulting and administration teams at Arup. Their genres of choice range from rock, indie and pop. Let us introduce you to the stars of the band.
Lead singer Jacqui is no stranger to the stage and spent most of her childhood performing. She quit piano lessons at 8 years old, dabbled in guitar and recorder before realising singing was her true calling. Her singing career highlight to date was a tabletop karaoke rendition of Tiny Dancer.
Keyboardist Xavier was inspired to make the switch from classical piano to killer keys by none other than the revered Lawrence “Mr. Cool” from the immortal “The School of Rock” of the early 2000s. When needing a break from the life-long pursuit to “stick it to the man”, Xavier continues to play his clarinet in community orchestras, dreams of playing his saxophone again in a jazz band and loves to get down to some RnB/Hip-Hop anthems and Disco/House tracks.
Bass player Nick, after ditching Simon and Garfunkel and Simply Red, is back at it again and performing alongside Jacqui and the Strutts for one night only. Nick takes inspiration from a variety of sources including: hip-hop, funk, jazz, punk, metal and noise.
Primarily a producer, guitarist Dean has a back catalogue of 200+ unreleased songs under his belt that no one else has ever heard. With a history of playing in bands ranging from reggae, folk and doom metal, Dean is returning from a 10 year hiatus to play live once again.
Drummer Lachie has followed the well-worn path from “I listen to bands that don’t exist yet” to “ok, I’ll play in your cover band”. Playing for the first time at the Prince Bandroom, Lachie will realise the lifelong dream of taking to a stage which fellow lanky-brooding-multi-instrumentalist-Melbournite Paul Dempsey has graced many times before.
Guitarist Ben comes from a jazz piano background having played mistakes all his life and realising he could get away with it. Ben’s influences include hip-hop, RnB, jazz, funk, disco, electronica and a drop of metal.
Jacqui and the Strutts are looking forward to rocking and popping everyone’s socks off at Construction Rocks 2019!
